Not Allowed to Show Films to The Public for Free

According to Southern Morning Post, Yanzhong Luo is not allowed to serve the public anymore. In 2007, Yanzhong Luo bought a second-hand film projector, began to show films to nearby villagers for free. Yes, he asks nothing from his audience, and keeps doing this for 10 years, although Luo himself is not a millionaire.

Not like the city life you know in some big cities in China, there are tons of villages in this country are destitute. Most villagers normally can not afford movies in theaters. In fact, there are a large number of poverty people whose income is less than 2300RMB (about 330 US dollars)  per person per year.

Yanzhong Luo's action give the nearby villagers an opportunity to enjoy films as an entertainment activity. In spite of the praise and support from villagers, Luo has to stop showing movies to the public at the end of 2016 because the local government order him to move away from the "business". The governors throw a simple reason on his face: you have no business licence eligibility. "But I do not do this for money, I want to give the culture and entertainment to villagers in this way." says Luo.

Anyway, it looks like Luo has to obey the order for away from the trouble. Some Chinese people on the Internet leave their opinions like: "Does the Party ask you to show films? you want to show the advantage of Socialism and disadvantage of Capitalism or vise versa?"; "You do not want to collect the money but they want."; "Of course you have to be stopped. What if you show something they don't like people to know."; "Put films for free, why need a license?".

For me, I believe there may be some copyrights issues for Luo's activity. But most films showed by Luo should be all right and pretty outdated. However, obviously, the government is not worrying about the copyrights. What they care is the benefit and the culture control. That projector has the ability to show something to wise people, although the possibility is so dim.

What is your attitude to this event?
